One of Them:
The Transformation of Simon Peter
By Tom Hoffman
ONE OF THEM
Fiction | History
What if God took a crummy fisherman with no education and made him the leader of the greatest revolution ever documented?
In the Book of Acts, the Jewish leaders were astonished at the Apostle Peter’s teaching after his first arrest. After all, he was a Galilean who had no formal education.
Peter’s fear of the Jewish religious leaders was very different from his early ministry with Jesus. After the Pentecost event, he now had the power of the Spirit as a teacher and guide.
This novel evokes a picture of Simon before encountering Jesus. He was a ‘raw’ young man, given to drink, angry outbursts, longing to be the center of attention, and self-centered.
Even as he ministered alongside Jesus, Peter proved impulsive, big-headed, and often fell prey to foot-in-the-mouth disease. Life’s lowest flashpoint came the night he denied knowing Jesus outside of Gethsemane.
But, because of the Spirit, Peter went on to become one of the foremost leaders of the early church.
One of Them is about one disciple’s transformation, starting as an immature teenager named Simon and evolving into a charismatic leader of the gospel of Jesus, serving until the last full measure of his life.
